We at CBOB are pursuing efforts to make the WORLD aware of the hushed issues facing IDPs.  More specifically, we are concerned about the future of these families: their children.  We want to show the world that these children should not be forgotten; that they can indeed become productive members of their societies when given the chance.  We look to make their dreams of a better life a reality through innovative programs we are currently implementing and plan to implement in the years to come in our own community and abroad!

Our current programs include:

Crossing Borders

Since 2004, student volunteers from the University of Florida, as well as various other universities within the United States, have visited the cites of Cartagena and Medellin, Colombia to make a lasting change in the lives of displaced youth. For the volunteers, Crossing Borders provides a rare opportunity to SEE the communities and MEET the people they have been urged to support.   Volunteers can see for themselves the living conditions of our children, as well as develop RELATIONSHIPS that are guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.

Inspired by our children many of our volunteers “hit the ground running” upon returning home and immediately get to working hard to inspire others to join the fight for social justice. Become a volunteer and explore the real ways to make a CHANGE!

I am CBOB

Personal relationships may be forged through Crossing Borders, but they are maintained through the “I AM CBOB” program.  “I AM CBOB” has been developed to assist the volunteers and affiliates of Children Beyond Our Borders in really getting to know our children individually. It is not only a way to prolong a relationship with a child, but also a way to closely monitor the child’s progress in other CBOB programs. Long term academic success is vital to seeing our children become professional successes, and “I AM CBOB” makes sure that the children are on that track.

Through “I AM CBOB” we strive to create long lasting relationships with our children and affiliates, thereby ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to go beyond providing financial support. Ultimately “I AM CBOB” allows for nurturing the children and leading them towards positive behaviors and limitless opportunities.

Nuevos Horizontes (New Horizons)

This unique program fuses mentorship and vocational education. Not only are students learning vocational skills based on THEIR interests and aspirations, but they are also learning the skills to adapt in today’s job market! Complementary classes in entrepreneurship, professional skills, life skills and technology will prepare the students to successfully navigate the job market, whether they decide to start their own business or obtain employment in another sector of their choice. This unique approach to learning utilizes technology and a multidisciplinary team of professionals that work outside the formal education system.

The program is the first of its kind, offering a system that stimulates self-esteem, curiosity, and innovation in otherwise vulnerable youth in an uncertain world.

Volunteer Intern Program

Interested in becoming involved? Our VIProgram aims to educate, encourage, and empower future leaders who will one day lead local or global nonprofit organizations, seeking to fight for various causes while helping diverse people groups. Through this program, we provide hands on experience and prepare our volunteers and interns for an effective and successful career in the nonprofit sector.
