Let us be practical, recognise that it has happened, and go for an alternative,” he said.

“Each country is still trying to cut carbon emissions in its own way - the US has a programme, the EU has a programme, China has a programme.

“Let each of them go ahead voluntarily… but let’s at least agree on a few basics of fairness and transparency.”

However, this approach is diametrically opposed to the stance taken by some developing countries, which insist that Western nations must live up to promises they have made at key points along the UN route that began in 1992 at the Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit.

This stance is echoed by most environmental organisations, which see the UN framework as the only way of providing a comprehensive raft of solutions to the issues posed by climate change.

“Only an equitable, comprehensive and legally binding agreement will bring the much needed international commitment to manage the climate crisis,” said Stewart Maginnis, director of environment and development with the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).

“What governments should focus on in Cancun is ensuring that confidence in the UNFCCC (climate convention) process is rebuilt, which will bring us a step closer to that final deal.”

Go to http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-11847084 to continue reading this article.

"photo-url-1280":"http://www.tumblr.com/photo/1280/chbob/1601752626/1/tumblr_lc1lkbHNz31qc12kg","photo-url-500":"http://29.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lc1lkbHNz31qc12kgo1_500.jpg","photo-url-400":"http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lc1lkbHNz31qc12kgo1_400.jpg","photo-url-250":"http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lc1lkbHNz31qc12kgo1_250.jpg","photo-url-100":"http://27.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lc1lkbHNz31qc12kgo1_100.jpg","photo-url-75":"http://30.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lc1lkbHNz31qc12kgo1_75sq.jpg

Come out and help support the CBOB Student Chapter Thursday, November 3 in our first screening of the documentary “La Sierra” which explores the lives of 3 people affected by war. Einstein Montessori ranges from 2nd-8th grade classes, and as this month was Hispanic Heritage Month the students were learning more about culture, diversity, and philanthropy within the local community and abroad. Suarez gave riveting speeches to the 7th and 8th grade Social Studies class. Students were not just simply moved, but stirred with passion and innovative ideas on how to truly make a difference in the lives of the youth whom we work with. The students sat through emotional recollections of Suarez’s experiences and stories of the youth that she has come across in Medellin, Colombia when traveling on Crossing Borders trips. Such stories, not only moved the children, but also the teachers present during the class discussions. The 7th and 8th grade students at Einstein took it upon themselves to organize a school-wide supply drive, collecting gently used clothes, new school supplies, and shoes. The students dedicated some of their time to creating cards to establish a truly heartfelt relationship with the youth they were exposed to in the 45 minute discussion. Children Beyond Our Borders has no borders, therefore we focus on how the proper education truly does make a difference in not only displaced youths lives, but also in the lives of our youth right around the corner. Take the time to find out how CBOB is involved in local projects with not just Einstein Montessori, but also Libros de Familia, Boys and Girls Club and Eastside High School!

Crossing Borders can take you there.
